GoodWorks International Participates in the
Los Angeles Chapter of the National Urban League’s
“Global Economy Conference “
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 27, 2008 – GoodWorks International will join leaders of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Urban League at a Global Economy Conference (GEC) on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
The conference, which will run from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM is open to the public and will take place at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Representing GoodWorks International will be Wallace Ford, President and Chief Operating Officer.
African-American leaders are convening this historic conference in the midst of the U.S. economic crisis in order to focus attention on South Los Angeles as a viable community for international investment. Sponsored by AEG Worldwide and The Annenberg Foundation, GEC will be presented by the Knowledge Transfer Summit (KTS) Steering Committee, a collaboration of individuals and organizations designed to strengthen Africa-American intergenerational links between 21stcentury leaders and the key surviving leaders of the Civil Rights era.
Mr. Ford will participate in a panel at 2:30 PM titled, “Overseas Opportunities for Trade & Investment: Africa, Asia and Latin America.”Other panelists will include James Burke, Director of Special Projects, City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs; Carlos Valderama, Director of Latin American Operations, Musick, Peeler & Garrett; the Rev. Alphonso Washington, Africa-USA International Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Wilmot Allen, OneWorld Enterprises.
Mr. Ford stated, “While in Los Angeles, I am looking forward to having a detailed discussion that specifically explores the impact of urban economic development on the economies of Africa, Asia and Latin America. I commend Dr. Renee Smith-Maddox, President of the Los Angeles Urban League and the other organizers of this conference for their foresight in convening this timely discussion.”
